PubSci:Mission

PubSci is an open academic journal built around a single inversion: reviewers are identifiable, and authors can be anonymous.

In conventional publishing, anonymity protects reviewers while authors carry their names on everything. PubSci reverses that by design. A reviewer signs every review under a stable pseudonymous handle that carries a public history. An author can publish under a pen name and let the work stand independently of any professional cost attached to a real name. Accountability flows from the act of review, not from the act of publication.

PubSci accepts work from all scientific disciplines: physical sciences, life sciences, social sciences, humanities, and philosophy. There is no subject-matter gate.

There is no editorial board. Submissions are published upon clearing a narrow legal floor (US law minimum). Quality, validity, and significance are argued through review, in the open, after publication.

Every published paper receives a permanent identifier and a DOI. Papers are locked at publication; a revision is a new version with a new DOI, and all prior versions remain live. The record is permanent.

Work that the review community identifies as fraudulent or fabricated is marked, not removed. A prominent notice becomes part of the paper's permanent record. PubSci removes content only under legal compulsion.

Review is open and post-publication. Any registered reviewer may submit a full review of a paper or attach inline annotations to specific passages. Reviews are signed under a stable handle, public, and permanent. Authors may respond. The full exchange is displayed on the paper's page, alongside the paper itself.

Reviewers accumulate a public history under their handle. That history is readable by anyone and forms the basis of reviewer reputation.

All papers are published under [CC-BY 4.0]. Authors do not choose otherwise. Attribution is preserved; access is unconditional.

The full body of papers, reviews, and annotations is available as open data.

PubSci uses the shared account system of the Pharmacopedia Collective. One account works across all Collective projects. An author's pen name is linked to their account in one place, under one named controller, and is never surfaced publicly. Authors who wish to sever that link may do so; the work remains, attributed to the pen name.

A reviewer's handle is permanent and carries a public review history. The person behind the handle may remain private; the reviewing itself is on the record.

PubSci is built and operated by the [Pharmacopedia Collective], a zero-profit project. There are no article-processing fees and no paywalls. Publishing is free. Reading is free. The cost of operating the platform is absorbed by the project.
